Drawing of the High Cross by Henrietta Townsend

In an ordinary street, close to Bruce Grove Station, hidden beneath a row of late 19th century housing, lies an ancient relic of Tottenham’s past.

You may have walked past without a second glance, scarcely noticing the road name, or perhaps even wondered who is St Loy? Here is meant to be a holy well, given a French saint’s name.

Where is the well now? And what on earth do horses have to do with it?

Bring your lunch, sit back and let life-long Tottenham resident and local historian Val Crosby answer these intriguing questions and many more.

Please book your free ticket for this in-person talk via Eventbrite.

Bedwell's signature on manuscript showing the word Tottenham

Join the curators of Bruce Castle Museum & Archive’s current exhibition, Getting the Measure of William Bedwell, in conversation with Alastair Hamilton and Samantha Brown.

William Bedwell was the Vicar of Tottenham at All Hallows Church, who was a leading figure in the study of Arabic in the early 1600s, as well as having a great interest in mathematics and its application.

The discussion at this lunchtime talk explores the shared interest of Hamilton and Brown in Tottenham’s 17th century vicar. It considers what Bedwell’s manuscripts and books reveal about his life and times, and examines how Bedwell connected early modern Tottenham to the wider world.

Please book your free ticket for this talk via Eventbrite.

For any queries, contact Bruce Castle Museum & Archive on museum.services@haringey.gov.uk
